P O R T O L A was a wonderful home transformation! The client’s style is an eccletic mix of rustic and chabby-chic. The single story home is on a hillside with amazing views over the Marin Civic Center and to the hills beyond. Taking down a partial wall that divided the kitchen and living room, created a ‘great room’ allowing for a more open space throughout. This also helped to create an open kitchen and island area which has become the ‘heart’ of the home.
We found a great old salvaged barn door that was used in the Entry area, which also helps to create a functional division between the Great Room and the hallway to the private spaces beyond. The contrast between the old barn door and the newly paneled, high gloss walls is a wonderful ‘modern farmhouse’ look!
New floors were done throughout the main living space as well as the private spaces of the home. The hallway Guest bathroom was also a total remodel. Ceramic tile with a concrete look was used throughout the very small bath, creating a uniform, clean and modern feeling. The overall palette is gray and white, mirroring the great room and kitchen for visual continuity.
